Computation and Dynamics

Circuit/Network Dynamics

Use nonlinear dynamical analysis to study the behavior exhibited by neural circuits/networks.

Real-Time Neuronal Modeling

Develop and use real-time computational hardware to study neuron and network computation.

Overview

We study the nonlinear, dynamic properties of neurons and neuron populations. Our techniques include mathematical modeling, computer simulation, and real-time hardware development.

Goals

  • understand the input / output properties of neurons and networks
  • understand the relationships between underlying physical mechanisms and the activities that they induce
  • understand the importance of nonlinearity and of dynamics over many orders of temporal magnitude
