Research
The main focus of our laboratory is on using biomaterials-based solutions to treat pathologies of the nervous system. Specifically, we are interested in regeneration of the peripheral and central nervous systems, targeted nano-scale drug and contrast agent delivery vehicles for the treatment of tumors, and technologies that enable communication between the nervous system and external electronics. The philosophy of our research program is to derive the design criteria for therapeutic approaches from a thorough examination and understanding of the underlying biology - both developmental and pathological - and then draw from the biomaterials science and engineering to fashion novel therapeutic approaches.
