Research
The main focus of our laboratory is in using biomaterials-based solutions to pathologies of the Nervous System. Specifically, our laboratory is interested in regeneration of the peripheral and central nervous system, and in developing targeted nano-scale drug and contrast agent delivery vehicles for the treatment of brain tumors, specifically astrogliomas. We are also interested in developing new technologies that enable communication between the nervous system and external electronics. The philosophy of our research program is to derive the design criteria for therapeutic approaches from a thorough examination and understanding of the underlying biology, both developmental and pathological, and then draw from the biomaterials science and engineering, to fashion novel therapeutic approaches.
